SAFETY

Accidents don't always have to happen.

We’re aiming to halve the number of accidents fatalities or serious injuries involving Nissans in Japan by 2015 compared with 1995. It’s an ambitious goal, but we think we can do it. At Nissan, our ultimate desire is “to reduce fatalities and serious injuries in accidents to practically zero,” achieving a safer automobile society in the future.

We even developed the Nissan Safety Activity:

1. Safety Shield is our way of designing vehicles to protect you and your passengers. From the first ever ‘around view’ monitors to the SRS Curtain Airbag System for unavoidable incidents, we’re creating innovative barrier features to help you avoid and respond to risks.

2. No car is safe without responsible driving. So we've introduced Anti Drink-Driving initiatives. Together with public awareness campaigns, we’re developing interactive technology in our cars to help you stay safe.

3. To be sure all of our cars act and react safely; we’ve recreated real world accidents in our Advanced Crash Laboratory to put them to the ultimate test.

We can't promise super powers.
Just a little more protection.

Since 2005, the Safety Shield activates different barriers according to the circumstances, from normal driving to post-accident, to provide continuous support against dangerous situations. Just another layer of protection for you.

Everyone is against drunk drivers.
Now our cars are too.

No matter how you look at it, drinking and driving is a deadly combination. Believe us, if we could physically pull every drunk driver off the road and into a cattle trough full of cold water, we would. But for now, we’re continually raising public awareness, educating drivers and developing technologies to stop it.

C.A.D.D.
Cars against drunk drivers.

We all love a drink now and again. But then to get in your car and drive anywhere is beyond stupid. But it happens. So we developed a new concept car with tons of cool little features. It can detect the driver's alcohol levels, his condition, and actually stop the car. And the best part? Voice and message alerts are sent via the navigation system warning you to “stop driving”. Oh, and the seatbelt alert mechanism tightens around the upperbody. Like giving you a yank back to reality.

Our crash lab is terribly advanced. And terribly noisy.

Don’t worry, we wear headphones. You see, in here we recreate all types of real-world accidents. Car-to-car crashes at every five-degree impact angle, rollover accidents and everything else in between.

Everything to help us prevent one when you’re on the road.

First Responder’s Guide

Passive and active vehicle safety has been continuously improved over the last decades and this improvement has contributed to the reduction of accident fatalities. However, it will not be possible to prevent accident completely.

The First Responder’s Guide is providing key information for emergency services in order to identify specific type of vehicle and to protect emergency responders as well as occupants of vehicles.
